Conducting a Cisco Unified Wireless Site Survey… it’s all about Location, Location, Location!

In the realms of wireless networking, careful planning is essential to ensure that your wireless network performs in a manner that is consistent with today’s design and deployment best practices.

The first step in any wireless LAN (WLAN) deployment is to ensure it begins with a site survey, to assess the Radio Frequency (RF) behaviour in a specific environment. Many issues can arise in a wireless network due to poor planning and coverage and this is a crucial step to ensure optimum performance – or the results could be the same as subscribing to the full sports and entertainment multimedia package and placing your satellite dish in the wrong place!

Rumour has it that in certain instances, site surveys are not performed properly, or are missed out completely, and avoiding this vital stage could cost you dearly on performance within your network. Likewise, it is also common that where environments are surveyed, the focus has been on data, but not voice or video. A wireless network that is going to be deployed throughout an enterprise must also be designed for voice and video to ensure that it is scalable and user mobility is enhanced.

In order to successfully plan and conduct a wireless site survey, design the RF network and conduct post installation assessments, Fast Lane would recommend attendance of the !Conducting Cisco Unified Wireless Site Survey (CUWSS).

Fast Lane have recently invested in refreshing our labs for this course, allowing us to offer you a unique training experience which incorporates the most up to date software available to use within a Site Survey today. This includes exclusive bonus practical exercises which comprise of the following, focussing on the latest software and labs using 802.11ac:

  • Conducting a Walk-through using Latest version of InSSIDer and Xirrus
  • Estimating an AP Number Using the Cisco Prime Planning Tool
  • Conducting a Layer 1 Sweep with Cisco 3700 acting in Standalone Spectrum Expert mode connecting to the Cisco Spectrum Expert
  • Conducting a Layer 1 Sweep with Cisco 3700 acting in Standalone Spectrum Expert mode connecting to the Chanalyzer
  • Conducting a Site Survey with both 2.4 GHz Omni Antenna and 5 GHz with Omni Antenna using Ekahau Site Survey with the 3700 access point running in standalone mode
  • Conducting a Site Survey with both 2.4 GHz Patch Antenna and 5 GHz with Patch Antenna using Ekahau Site Survey with the 3700 access point running in standalone mode

In addition, the Conducting Cisco Unified Wireless Site Survey (CUWSS) course also prepares delegates for the 642-732 – CUWSS Conducting Cisco Unified Wireless Site Survey exam.

This forms part of the CCNP Wireless certification, and can also be used towards numerous Cisco partner requirements, including the new Advanced Enterprise Networks Architecture Specialization.
