Cisco Announces New Expert Network Design Certification Program

Cisco recently announced a new Expert level certification to sit alongside the Routing & Switching, Voice, Security, Service Provider and Storage Networking CCIE programs. The Cisco Certified Design Expert (CCDE) program was created to recognize senior level network designers and architects. The program also gives senior operations and support network engineers a validated professional development path for moving into a network architecture role that participates in business strategy.
The new certification identifies those with expert-level knowledge and skills in Infrastructure Design. CCDE is parallel to CCIE in terms of difficulty, and expertise. It emphasizes network design principles and theory at the Layer 3 level or Routing layer and recognizes expertise of designers that have the knowledge to assess network business requirements and can translate them into technical specifications to be incorporated into successful designs.
The new Expert program is modeled after the industry leading CCIE program with a "qualification" and subsequent "practical" exam. To achieve your Expert level certification you are required to pass two exams.
First you have to pass the Written Exam. Fast Lane recommends you attend the courses in the relevant Professional Level. For example we would recommend that you attend the Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP) courses to prepare for the 352-001 CCDE Written Exam.
Secondly, you have to pass the Lab Exam, which requires you to put the acquired knowledge into practice. You are required to pass the Written Exam first before scheduling the Lab Exam.
Currently, the qualification exam is available worldwide at any Pearson VUE testing center. The practical CCDE Exam is still currently in development. It will be an eight-hour, practical scenario-based exam available in late 2008.
