Cisco announces new CCNA and CCENT Certification

Cisco have announced a revision to the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and the introduction of a brand-new entry level certification.

The revised CCNA curriculum will consist of two 5-day courses ICND Part 1 and ICND Part 2. ICND1 is the first half of the CCNA curriculum, and will provide foundational networking knowledge and hands-on practice to equip delegates for an entry level career in networking support. ICND2 is the second half of the CCNA curriculum, and reviews fundamentals and expands to cover configuration and verification of medium sized networks and troubleshooting of regular operations. Both courses will now offer more time for hands-on practice and labs.

The End Of Life date for the current CCNA exams is November 6th 2007. A passing score on an existing exam is good for three years from the date it was passed for mix-and-match purposes.

An extension of the Career Certifications program introduces an entry level certification designed specifically for those with less than three years of networking job experience. It is a first step towards CCNA certification, although not a prerequisite. The recommended course required to achieve the Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician (CCENT) is the ICND Part 1.
